” … Yes, Poodles do dance. I’ve seen it… “
Earlier today I had to run an errand for Big Bear. Being the kind heart that he is, he wanted to gift some local wine to his goodfellows at work. Off I go to our beloved Arrowleaf Winery – Searching for a case of their 2012 Pino Noir – of which some grapes were lovingly supplied by our friends and neighbors at Ritchie Vineyards. A perfect opportunity to take the Punks for a car ride. Punk One – aka Chloe – is enjoying playing mad-dog from the back window of the suv. Announcing herself to the world of brilliant fall colours and sniffs; ‘woofs’ galore escape her as we make our voyage to the winery.
Punk Two – aka Belly – on the other hand is cowering in the backseat hate hate hating life. Drooling to no end and looking at me with those big brown eyes asking me “why momma why”? I had once made the mistake of taking her for a car ride when she was a puppy – immediately after her breakfast that day! Have you ever seen a sea of puppy puke? It ain’t pretty let me tell you. But today as we reach our destination, the girls bound out of the car and once again announce their presence by running in circles and dancing. Yes, poodles do dance. I’ve seen it.
Dancing (which is Belly’s specialty) is one thing. Not looking where she is dancing is another. My sweet, dizzy, should be blonde but is brunette poodle doesn’t see her reflection in the floor to ceiling window outside the entryway to the wine shop.
I’ve walked into a window like that before. Ouch! No, wine was not involved. Just the perfectly clean brilliant glass that looks like a walk – through.
Are you OK Belly?
Dazed for a mere second, the dancing continues and there is what appears to be a big smile on her face. Apparently that hurt me more than it hurt her. Needless to say, after much oohing and ‘are you ok’ing’, petting, hugging and feeling like an awful guardian of Punk Two, I bring her home and make her a special treat…. Carrot Cookies!! ♥
